How to Become a WASA Referee
If you have refereed for the WASA rec program anytime during the past 2 seasons, you don't need to do anything. We will email an availability form to you approximately one month before the upcoming season.
If you are already a USSF certified referee who has not refereed for WASA in the past but would like to referee WASA recreation league games, click here and provide us with some basic information. WASA will contact you by email.
If you are not currently a USSF certified referee, there are two training options.
-
Option 1 is a USSF grassroots certification course offered by the Ohio South State Referee Committee (OSSRC). This course qualifies referees to work games anywhere in the U.S., including the Ohio Soccer Association (OSA) and the WASA recreation league. This course is offered online with a short in-class session after the online components are completed. Candidates must be at least 14 years old.
Contact MaryAnne Baum for scheduling and registration information or with any questions you may have about the course.
NOTE: All USSF referee classes are virtual this season. Click on the OSSRC link above for virtual class details.

Option 2 is an introductory course that WASA offers for first time referees who want to start in a less competitive environment. The WASA Rec Referee Clinic qualifies the new referee to begin refereeing WASA U6 and U7 recreation level games. With more experience, rec referees may be assigned to U8 through U12 games. This clinic is not a certification course. It is not valid for Ohio Soccer Association (OSA) or any league other than WASA. Candidates must be at least 12 years old.
The WASA Rec Referee Clinic is offered twice a year, approximately a month before the start of our rec league seasons. There are no fees, but class sizes are limited. Once the limit is reached, no more applications will be taken until the next season.
